Mineral Oil Desnity Measurements

July 17, 2001
Randy Johnson

Procedure

250 ml graduated flask was weighed on a triple beam balance. Mineral oil was transfered from container to 400 ml beaker. The beaker was used to fill the flash such that the bottom of the meniscus is at the graduation mark. The flask's weight was then remeasured. All measurements were made at room temperature (21o C). After each use, the flask was rinsed with ethanol and dried. (Mineral oil balls up in ethanol and is carried away in the wash.) Transfer beaker was washed in soap and water, then rinsed with ethanol, and finally dried.
