HUBBLE

LetŐs not forget that one of NASAŐs Great Observatories, the Hubble Space Telescope, has been observing Mars for over a decade.

This image, probably the best one by Hubble, clearly shows the Vallis Marineris canyon and other familiar features.

It has been possible to make a nice of mars as a rotating globe with the Hubble: http://www.physics.uc.edu/~sitko/AdvancedAstro/18-Hubble/vmars2

Hubble has also been instrumental in tracking a major that enveloped the planet.
